Cat Friendly Clinic

We are excited to announce that Brookfield Vets has achieved Gold accreditation as a Cat Friendly Clinic (CFC).

What does this mean?

The CFC programme has been developed by the International Society of Feline Medicine, the veterinary division of the leading feline charity International Cat Care, and accreditation has been made available in partnership with Ceva, Royal Canin, Boehringer Ingelheim, Idexx, Elanco and Zoetis. This means as a practice we aim to promote well-being and high standards of care for all cats visiting or being hospitalised at Brookfield. Under the programme, we have to prove rigorous adherence to a set of criteria which includes provision of facilities and demonstration of staff activities and attitudes aimed at reducing stress in cats, both as in-patients and out-patients. The criteria includes having separate dog and cat waiting areas, when you next visit the practice you will find a cat only designated area with cat stands where you can place your cat in their carrier safely off the ground away from dogs, we have a separate cat kennel room with suitably sized kennels which meet criteria to make sure your cat is as comfortable as can be when staying at the practice, and veterinary equipment specifically for treating cats. Most importantly, our staff are encouraged to approach and handle cats sensitively and respectfully. We are expected to maintain high standards of veterinary care, including continuing to update their knowledge of feline medicine as new knowledge becomes available.

We appreciate that bringing your cat to the practice can be very stressful and are hoping that by being part of this programme we will be able to make your trip to the practice as stress free as possible for you and your cat. Cats can get very anxious when taken out of their usual environment, and this may make you reluctant to seek veterinary attention when your cat needs it. By undertaking Cat Friendly Clinic accreditation, we’ve committed to delivering high standards of cat care, with compassion and expertise

Here is a table which simplifies some of the criteria we have had to adhere to, to become a Gold accredited Cat Friendly Clinic:
